The Greece economy has been on a roller coaster these last two weeks
because of the on-again, off-again, currently on-again rescue plan from
the EU. And the markets have been dragged up and down with it
somewhat. So I thought this week would be a good time to talk about
macro-economics and the various economics schools of thought: Austrian,
Keynesian, and Chicago/Monetarists. Whatever we think about these
economics theories, understanding them is a big help in understanding
why and how our leaders make decisions which effect the economy, and
which effect us through the economy. (We only got about halfway through
the slides in the younger class, so we will finish next time.)
Also, Super-Tuesday (10 primaries on the same day) is on March 6th, so
you can expect a lot of media attention on that in the next two weeks.
Assignments for the next class on March 9th are:
1. Read chapter 4 of Understanding Power, by Noam Chomsky
2. Follow the news as usual, and do a blog post. Your blog post can be
a fact check on something (the preferred option if you haven't done a
fact-check style post yet), or an opinion about something interesting.
If you are studying for the upcoming Latin America country quiz, Audrey
said there were good resources at the same sites I posted for studying
for the Europe country quiz. (see the previous post on the blog for those)
